Well that is what I can best characterize as a very "non-traditional weekend"....
First off, a HUGE "Get Well Soon" and prayers go out to Fish in his recovery this week. All is ok but still a long ways to go till things get back to normal.
Friday began with dinner and some enjoyment of WiiPlay with Matt and Jen. Around 8pm I thought it would be a good idea to drive to Wal-Mart to pick up "a few things". My thought was that since the roads were far from 100% ideal, there would be fewer idiot drivers to deal with and less weirdos walking the aisles. My plan was actually going well till I drove home and was dumb enough to take the "back way" home which includes two very big hills covered in ice. Yes, I was in 4 wheel drive but I still found a way to slip and slide up the first hill and just when I thought I had caught it, I was wrong and a 180 degree flip and across the other lane into a huge snow bank I went. Luckily we had just had another 12 inches of snow Thursday and Friday so now the snow was up to the window level on half of my TrailBlazer and she was stuck in there pretty well.
So I call my friend "The Pat" and interrupt his viewing of 24 and he and his lovely wife "Tony A" come and help out.... along with about 6 other friendly Minnesotans. Using a tow chain and 5 people pushing (Tonya controlled the spotlight/flashlight with the best of skillz) we finally got her unstuck and I was able to get home - using a different route. No damage to the car that I can see, just a little scary for her and I. My first time getting stuck, even the BSUV (BigShow's Saturn Utility Vehicle) never got stuck!
Saturday I had a great experience in the morning by running a full 5k on the treadmill (3.17 miles) in 33 minutes! That's one of my exercise goals, but now I'd like to knock off those extra 3 minutes.... all in due time.
The Brews Brothers met to do some lunch bowling at Rock and Bowl! Yes, 80s music, black lights, and lots of kids. Afterwards the plans were to do some sledding at Fish's house and then watch some classic movies. This is where things went a little "different than as planned". There was a slight accident during the sledding. I am very proud of my Brews Brothers Boys who used adrenaline and every ounce of energy we had to drag our fallen brother up the steep hill (still think there was a hand of God helping us with that final 30 feet where it's the steepest). We took Fish to the Emergency Room and spent a lot of the evening there. He is doing well and will continue to be there for a few more days. I did have the "honor" of pulling the TrailBlazer into the ER garage next to 3 Ambulances. The one medical person was impressed with our "makeshift Ambulance".
And for those counting at home, this makes it 100% in my last 2 sledding experiences that ended up with someone going to the Emergency Room. I think I'm about ready to retire.
Sunday morning I waited in line in front of Target at 7am in the 4 degrees for a Wii for my good friend Kahn. I was able to get him a Wii, myself a WiiPlay (FINALLY) and a Classic Controller for playing Zelda/Mario Brothers. The Classic Controller is the way to go for the Virtual Games in case anyone's wondering.
Sunday Afternoon I went to Barnes and Noble in my ongoing effort to read more than watch TV. Also, I think it's a fun place to "people watch" (one of my favorite hobbies) and hopefully meet some intelligent women! I made it 1/3 of the way through the book I wanted to start reading - I figure if I finish it while still in the store, I just saved $14!! Yes, I'm that cheap!
And that's my "non-traditional" weekend. What did you do?
Haiku of the Day -
Pat helped bail me out
Now he only asks one thing
Journey Songs all week:(
Entertainment of the Day - Yes, so this week is dedicated to The Pat and his very strange love for Journey (I swear he does it in part to piss me off). Today's song that he would like me to discuss is Open Arms. There's a video here of a live performance. I think Pat's in the 2nd row sporting the mullet! More Journey coming tomorrow... it'll be a long week:(
Weblink of the Day - Two links today. First is a Family Guy clip that came up in discussion during bowling where Chris enters the "Take On Me" video (by A-Ha). The second is a new flick from the 30 Second Bunnies - a Bond marathon where they clip every 007 movie at least one time! I recognize most of them from the college days where they would show a Bond-Marathon right during finals. No wonder I flunked so many of my finals!
