TipDrill Says Wassup

It's Friday (finally!). So in honor of such a momentous occasion, I hope to have a really good blog for you to start your weekend with (mine starts around 11 with a half day!!)

I had a weird Text Message come through yesterday from a Rochester number, but not a familiar one. It simply said:

Hey Ashley, I'm sitting next to (Jon Doe) right now.

Name was changed to protect the idiots. So having just given a teammate crap for not having fun with a random caller that called our IBM team room looking for a new belt for his car..... I decided to have some fun. My response:

Who's Ashley? Is (Jon) hot?
Their response: Wtf who dis?
My response: Not ashley - u didnt answer my ?s:)
Their response: Im a guy but i guess so if ur a girl now who are u

And I left it at that. But then last night at rehearsal, I get the following.... FROM A DIFFERENT ROCHESTER NUMBER:

lol - i was jk. (Jon Doe) told me to say it. I dont even know you either. they just say ur name is either ashley or tipdrill? idk. sorry tho i guess. peace

So of course I have to inquire about "tipdrill":

Tipdrill? Sounds kind of kinky! I hate to tell ya but ur way off here:) Good luck with Ashley and the Tool woman.

And that's all I gots to say about that. I at least take the time to add punctuation when I TM. Guess I'm old fashioned like that.

I also decided to come up with my version of "The Greatest CD Ever Made" and despite my best efforts, I had to break it into a double disc set. So here are my selections for what would be "The Greatest CD Ever Made". Considering each CD should be able to hold 15 songs easily. Or in iPod speak "the greatest playlist limited to 30 songs". The order is determined not in importance, but to make each CD flow well together.

Greatest CD Disc 1
1) AC/DC - Thunderstruck
2) Michael Jackson - Thriller
3) U2 - Beautiful Day
4) Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
5) Dee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart
6) Van Halen - Panama
7) Metallica - Enter Sandman
8) The Who - Pinball Wizard
9) Eminem - Lose Yourself
10) Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
11) Guns 'N Roses - Patience
12) Ozzy Ozzbourne - No More Tears
13) Prince - Kiss
14) Korn - Freak On A Leash
15) Madonna - Vogue

Greatest CD Disc 2
1) Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
2) NIN - Closer
3) Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
4) Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings
5) DC Talk - It's Killing Me / Dive
6) Rose Royce - Car Wash
7) Aerosmith - Rag Doll
8) Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
9) Garbage - Androgyny
10) Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under The Bridge
11) The Beatles - I Am The Walrus
12) Cake - I Will Survive
13) U2 - Please
14) Michael Jackson - Billy Jean
15) Elvis - Viva Las Vegas
(hidden track) - The Pennsylvania Polka

There ya go. Have a great weekend! I'll be in La Crosse for my last concerts of the 2005-2006 season!!

Song of the Day - Take your pick from above. Although I do have that particular list up right now and currently Smashing Pumpkins is on. So there.

Video of the Day - This one might take some effort if you want to really see the good stuff. This is a link to the official trailer for Mel Gibson's movie Apocalypto. There is a funny easter egg in here to look for if you have a minute or two and would like to see it. Wait for the shot of the monkey screaming (about 3/4 of the way through it) and then hit the pause button in the lower left. Then use the frame back button to rewind about 10-15 frames. You'll know you found it when you get there! Well worth the effort!

Webpage of the Day - Even though the guy hit his goal, this was pretty funny to stumble across yesterday. There still is no comment as to his sudden popularity around the world in one day. Plus no pictures yet as to how he plans on collecting. I don't think Hazel would like a bet such as this!

Peace! I'm outa here!

'Cause You Had A Bad Day

AI saw the dismissal of Kellie. So all of my conspiracy theories go out the window (for this week) and the American people (some 47 million people!!!) have spoken. Good riddance. I am glad to see her go as for two weeks in a row, she was horrible. My ranking for this week: Elliott, Chris, Katharine, Taylor, Paris, Bye-Bye Kellie. And no, I wasn't impressed with Andrea Bocelli who's comments were about as helpful as Paula's. But David Foster was pretty cool. He wasn't afraid to work on the "nuts and bolts" of the performance. Stuff like pitch problems, technique, etc. That's what these folks need right now.

One thing I find ironic is not only do we have more people voting for American Idol every week than vote for the president every 4 years (AI only has a 2 hour window where most voting offices are open 12+ hours), but how the AI results are major headlines on every news webpage. Right up there with the abolishing of FEMA, Gas Prices issues, and Snoop Dogg going into custody at Heathrow. Scotland Yard obviously doesn't like the D-O-double-gizzo.

We had an "ice-breaking" event here at work yesterday. We had beautiful weather and gave the people in our area an hour to go mingle and play some simple games to try to win fabulous prizes. It was a good time except I got too much sun in the hour that I was out there without a hat. It's time like this that I hate being bald. So now the top of my head is red (doesn't hurt, just looks red) and I'll probably hear jokes about it all day. I don't mind shaving my head since there's no hair up there to really save anyways - but there are a few bad things that come with being bald. Obviously the sun and burning every time I spend more than 10 minutes in the sun without a hat. Another thing that I hate are the constant bald jokes.... think I haven't heard them all yet? Plus it seems so easy to make fun of the bald guy. I also hate having to buy new razors all the time to continue shaving it every couple of days. Gets expensive!!! Oh well......

Golf last night was horrendous for me. I shot somewhere between 30 and 100 is all I'm going to say. I was driving the ball really well (only missed one fairway when using my driver), but then it was a challenge from there of getting the ball onto the green. And my putting was pretty crappy as well - just had an overall hard time judging speeds and distances last night. Must have been all that sun. I did enjoy the nice cool weather and the ability to be outside enjoying it. That's enough reason to golf right there.

Song of the Day - I pulled the Stone Temple Pilots back out. I know most people who enjoy STP don't even own Shangri La Di Da (their last studio album), but I rather enjoy that album. Today on the way in to work I was listening to Wonderful which is an awesome song and I would place it in their top 5 list of greatest songs. I wish STP was still together as they were one of the most musical bands of my generation.

Video of the Day - I watched Good Night and Good Luck this week. I didn't live through the McCarthyism era, only read about it in history books, so I enjoyed the movie, but probably didn't fully appreciate it. I did find it ironic the parallels between McCarthy accusing everyone of being communist, and today's current administration accusing everyone of being a terrorist. Interesting how history has a natural way of repeating itself.

Webpage of the Day
- All of you Nickelback fans will appreciate this one. Kahn sent this to me and I thought it was well done and proves a point. I'd still go see Nickelback in concert though. I don't care for their new song though. Sounds too much like their other ones probably:)

More Cowbell!

I did not get to AI last night. I came home at the start of the 3rd period with the Red Wings trailing 3-1. With an awesome 3rd period, they came back to tie it at 3-3. Then what looks like they should have won turned into a fluke (Roloson is cheating again) so into double overtime they went. RedWings lose 4-3. Dangit. Not only was I up until after 1am watching it, but they lost on top of it all. So now what? I still think Legace is the man, someone just needs to kick him in the ass to make him start playing up to his potential. The offense is starting to gel (like Magellin) so there's still a lot of hope for them Thursday night in game 4. Hazel still fails to see the importance of hockey on our culture and society influences.... especially from double overtime. I'll continue to work on her.

On my drive to La Crosse last night, I picked up the hiccups. I caught them at around 5:32 (yes, I looked at the clock) and was still having them around 6:05. So over 30 minutes of the dang hiccups. I get hiccups maybe 2 times a year, but never this bad. I'm not a doctor (but I play one on TV) so I looked up the phenomenon known as "hiccups":

The medical term is singultus. While many cases develop spontaneously, hiccups are known to develop often in specific situations, such as eating too quickly, taking a cold drink while eating a hot meal, eating very hot or spicy food, laughing vigorously or coughing, or drinking an excess of an alcoholic beverage.

Hiccups may be caused by pressure to the phrenic nerve by other anatomical structures, or rarely by tumors. It is still unclear to scientists exactly why hiccups occur, particularly because it doesn't seem to give us any specific benefit. Some speculation exists that hiccups are a remnant of a bodily function that has been phased out by evolution, such as the move from aquatic gilled creatures to land animals. More research is required to ascertain their true nature, origins, and purpose, if any.

While some people who have seen me eat might think it was from eating too fast.... I beg to differ. I had just taken a big cold gulp of water when they occured. So your guess is as good as mine. I did try to "cure myself" on my drive to La Crosse (for lack of anything better to do). I did the deep breaths for a couple of minutes, but that only made me light headed to the point of wanting to pass out. Not good on I-90 going 74 miles an hour (speed limit is 70, btw). Then I tried the hold my breath as long as I could. This also causes light headedness but I was actually shocked at how long I could hold my breath without being forced to. Finally I resorted to my engineering mentality to scare myself. I would set my alarm on my new kick-ass phone and turn it to as loud as it would go. I would then hold the phone next to my ear and try to relax while I was driving (and hiccupping all the while about every 6-7 seconds). Then without warning the phone's alarm would go off and "scare" me. The first one didn't work so I tried it again - finally with some success!

I remember my mom having hiccups once in the car (about a year ago) and while dad was filling the car with gas, I pulled out a $10 bill and offered it to my mom if she had one more hiccup. She couldn't do it anymore. I've done that to Claire before (who would act another hiccup just to take my money) and it also worked. Not sure why it works but it does usually if the person isn't suspecting it. My mom called it "black magic".

Rehearsal went much better last night than last week - so I'm more excited for this concert than I was last week. We also got the 4-1-1 on the music for next year.... more on that later on. Golf league tonight - I'm shooting for sub-50 tonight!

Song of the Day - In researching the next link, I now have Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear The Reaper going through my head. And yes, with more cow bell!

Video of the Day - In one of the greatest Christopher Walken clips (no, not the shiny gold watch), "Bruce Dickinson" (no relation) demands simply.... MORE COW BELL!! Some wonderful words to live by in our daily actions.

Webpage of the Day
- Here's a new idea - blacklight ink tattoos!! So you can't see it 99% of the time, but get under the blacklights and instant tattoo! I might have to keep my eye on this idea. See if they can do a kickass Cy tattoo for me to enjoy at Rock N' Bowl.

AI Preview

Sorry for the delay in posting yesterday - the blogger site was down most of the morning. It finally came back up around 11 but the blog was finished by 8am as usual! I shouldn't complain since it is a free service for me, and a free service for you. I will have to start charging when I go syndicate someday... after I'm famous. You can say you remember when reading my daily antics was free of charge.......

Congrats to Matt and Jessi here in Rochester who are now expecting. A mini "stud" is on its way. Or "Stud-ette"

It's a cloudy Tuesday which can only mean one thing.... AMERICAN IDOL FINAL 6!!!! My early prediction is for Elliott to unfortunately go home even though I think he's final 4 material. But tonight's theme is love songs so in honor of this theme, I came up with the following suggestions for our contestants:

Chris - this was an easy one... Every Rose Has its Thorn by Poison. What American Idol watching human being doesn't love that song?
Paris - I Will Always Love You by Whitney (and some other country hillbilly band. Was the country the original or was Whitney first? I divert all country questions to Pitzen. But Paris has the pipes for this one.
Kellie - She'll probably sing Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray (Eddie's Favorite Guy in Jeans) but I think I'd rather hear Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) by the Crue.
Taylor - Night Ranger's Sister Christian.... just because I want to hear Sister Christian sung for some reason.
Elliott - I'm thinking some classic songs (done once by Harry Connick Jr. of course) like It Had To Be You or I Only Have Eyes For You might be pretty sweet.
Katharine - She could really rock the competition for the 2nd straight week with this genre. Not sure what to suggest for her - maybe More Than Words by Extreme? I'm sure it will be good whatever it is.

Too bad Ace is gone, because he'd be perfect to pull out When I'm With You by Sheriff..... Ah the roller skating memories.

Gas is back up yet again... this is funny more than it is sickening at this point. $2.89 in Rochester which is below the national average. The government seems to think it will do something about it but I'm not sure what they can do. They seem to only be saying that since mid-term elections are coming up. I say we vote them all out of office and start over but what do I know? I do know that the folks in office do not pay for their own gas, it comes out of tax money so what do they really care? Most have no idea how much things cost at the grocery store since they haven't had to shop for their own groceries in a long time. It's pretty pathetic how removed our "representatives" are from the majority of the people in this nation. There's my political soap box of the day.

Rehearsal again tonight in La Crosse. Final concerts of the year this weekend and there are still tickets available. Let me know if you're interested and I can give you more details. There's some good music being played and a super cute bald bass player to check out the whole concert.

Song of the Day - Queen's Under Pressure was on at the RAC this morning. I always laugh at how it is "mostly the same" as Ice Ice Baby BUT I do remember the interview with Vanilla Ice who said it was so very different because of "one note" in the bass line. I can better explain this in person. I did not realize that Queen collaborated with David Bowie to record Under Pressure. Good thing - otherwise where would Robert Van Winkle have stolen his bass line from?

Video of the Day - I watched Blues Brothers (not to be confused with Brews Brothers - the kick ass bowling team) and forgot how many famous people are in that movie. Including (but not limited to) PEE WEE HERMAN!!! Seriously, he's a waiter at the restaurant in one of the scenes. What a great classic movie though.

Webpage of the Day
- Gasbuddy shows the national gas prices by county. Where do you rate? There's a lot of green in Wyoming!!!!

Wedding Songs

I was at a wedding on Saturday with the Lovely Miss Hazel. It was an extremely nice wedding and the reception was held here in Rochester at the Country Club. We had the room overlooking two of the holes on the golf course which was kind of fun. The decorations were very nice, the food was incredible. They had a sweet veggie/fruit/cheese tray out when people arrived that served as lunch for me. There was a fondu fountain, cake, and even ice cream later during the dance. I thought that was a good idea, bringing out more food during the dance. I took the can of whipped cream back to our table and when one of the workers asked what it was doing at the table, I said that we were taking it home to have some fun later on. She simply replied "right on!" and left it with us. No, the whipped cream never made it home with us.

The dance was the only thing that bothered me that night. Most of you know that I love dances and can tear up some mean moves out there with the best of them. Or maybe it's just funny to watch the biggest guy on the dance floor doing his patented "fish out of water" moves! But this time, the music was straight off the CD "most overplayed wedding dance songs" which really annoyed me. There is such good music out there over the past 50 years to dance to, why do you have to select the ones that are most overplayed? Here is a list of the songs I remember:

Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin (the non-Top Gun version)
ABBA - Dancing Queen
Village People - YMCA
Hokie Pokie
Ric Silver - Electric Slide
The Beatles - Twist and Shout
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Billy Idol - Mony Mony

What else was there...... I'm trying to remember. All I know was that there was a huge lack of Michael Jackson which upset me. I was surprised there was no Chicken Dance and Macarena the way the music was being played. OH - and he did pull out some polka which was the highlight of the night. Hazel and I are decent at the polka but could still use a lesson to be even better. Something to do before the weddings later in the summer! There was also plenty of country unfortunately. I recognized the Big & Rich stuff from tailgating days. Jamie, have you purchased any other CDs for tailgating this fall?

My last good news for this Monday is how I'm having even more fun with my new phone. I had some time to kill before the reception since the Beautiful Hazel was a hostess. I figured out how to turn on RingTones (or CallTones or AnswerTones) with Cingular. So now everyone that calls my cell phone, instead of hearing "Ringggggg..... Ringggggggg" like you would expect to hear, I've selected Michael Jackson's Thriller to play to entertain you while you wait for me to pick up! How cool is that? I love this phone. I should go look for the Iowa State Fight Song! That'd be cool!

Song of the Day - Speaking of Weddings, I'm going to listen to the soundtrack from The Wedding Singer. There's some good stuff on there but of course the highlight is Adam Sandler's own song: Somebody Kill Me written in the style of The Cure. I remember being freaked out by the videos of The Cure back when MTV actually showed videos.

Video of the Day
- I did a quick search for Thriller and this video of the Penn State Nittany Lion (what is a Nittany Lion anyways and should I be scared?) is pretty good. I still think I did a better job at the Vesterby Wedding. I should rework the dance up for future gigs.....

Webpage of the Day
- Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but the painting of "Still Free" on the side of Air Force One was a hoax. It still cost them a lot of money to setup and do on a copy of the real thing. I'm still impressed and I'm sure a ton of people were convinced it was real.

Walking Fundraisers

It's Friday and back to normal Spring weather. I can wait another 2 months for the 85+ degree days that we had about a week and a half ago.

It's about the time when some of the fundraiser walks begin and this year I am walking in the second annual Walk-A-Thon for Preeclampsia. I am walking in memory of my dear friend Shelly who passed away in January 2005 and in honor of her amazing daughter Hailey. If anyone would like to learn more about preeclampsia, go to the site above. If anyone would like to walk with me in Minneapolis on the morning of May 13th (just ride along or meet me there), let me know. Otherwise I'll be walking with Mr. iPod to keep me company. There is also walks in other parts of the country - including Davenport. This one is being setup and run by Shelly's parents and they would love to have more people take part. There is also the ability to donate (tax deductible remember!) without walking from the same registration form.

My brother is also doing his part by participating the same morning in WalkAmerica (March of Dimes) which is the largest walk-a-thon fundraiser nationwide. They do a lot of work and help for babies such as Hailey that was born almost 2 months early and ensure that she will continue to grow up healthy. Here is his website for any family members (or anyone) that would like to contribute to his cause. I think that if he makes his goal of fundraising, he should have to turn it into a triathalon or something. For those that have never met my brother, he is in much much better shape than I am. He was born to run. I was born to eat. He has trophies and medals from running cross country. I have T-Shirts from all you can eat wing eating contests. And a woman's bowling trophy - can't forget that one!!!

I have been going to the RAC pretty consistently the past 2 weeks. What I'm continually amazed at is how we as adults are extreme creatures of habit. I see the same people there every morning (or on the specific days they come for specific events, Tuesday Racquetball, Friday Basketball, etc) arriving at the same time. I'm one in the same with these people. When I drive to work, I will continue to see the same people on Hwy 52 that I saw the day before. I park in very similar parking spot as the day before because I, along with everyone else, arrive at work nearly the same time every morning. I remember discussing this in my 2nd year of Music Theory (the class I probably use most here at my job at IBM.... for analyzing the music that I'm listening to on my headphones). Dr. Prater was discussing the whole concept of "creatures of habit" and brought out things such as putting the same contact lens in first, starting in the same corner when you brush your teeth, putting the same shoe on first. You know what? He is exactly right. Just a random thought for the day.

Plans this weekend include cleaning and practicing tonight, a wedding in La Crosse of one of Hazel's coworkers (reception at the Elite Rochester Country Club (or is that 31337 Country Club)..... CAN'T TOUCH ME!! I'M VIP!) which will be fun. I had a chance to meet a lot of her coworkers at the bridal shower a couple of weeks ago and they are a fun group of people. Doubt there will be many conversations about nerdy things as I'm used to with my IBM coworkers! Sunday will hopefully be spent enjoying the nice weather outdoors with friends here in town. Maybe playing Bob Villa on some things too.

Song of the Day - I've been on a DMB kick all week. I can tell you still that my favorite album is Live at Red Rocks but don't really have a single favorite song to listen to. I do find myself listening to his live CDs more than the studio CDs - probably the only band that I do that with. The only band that puts out 2x as many live CDs as they have studio CDs.

Video of the Day - Everyone changes looks over the years, but we all know that Michael Jackson takes the cake... this is an interesting video to see this transformation.

Webpage of the Day - Thanks to Drew for today's submission. Someone was able to graffiti the President's Plane. Seriously - watch as they get up there and spray paint "Still Free" on to Air Force One.

Go Red Wings!

HAPPY THURSDAY!!! My favorite day of the week because it means the weekend is very close, but it still allows for productivity at work. On Friday, people are usually pretty worthless and I hate getting the assignments at around 3:00 on Friday afternoon. I don't mind getting them on a Thursday.

First night of Golf League (at Oaks) was pretty successful considering it was my first time out this year. I shot a 52 which isn't great, but I'm happy with it for the first night. No lost balls! I only had one penalty stroke (dang water on 9) and I could have easily knocked off 3 putts and 2 chips. That would be a 46 which would have been a much better score. Something to shoot for for next year! I was happy that for the first time in my life, I was on the green on 10 in 2!!! Never done that before and will never get that chance again. I three putted for a 5 btw on 10.

So Ambiguously Gay Ace is gone from American Idol. That should be no shock to anyone, but what was shocking was seeing Chris in the bottom 2!!! What the..... I have a bunch of conspiracy theories, even though most of them are wrong. Like the show putting someone in the bottom 2 just to get more people to vote for that person the next week. Roommate-Adam had a good idea of voting for the person you DON'T want to see the following week. This is a good idea because it would focus the voting power to get rid of the weakest person rather than splitting up all the votes of people actually voting for talent rather than who's cute. Also split up all the country listening people who continue to vote for Kellie even though she was by far the worst performance on Tuesday. I would love to argue differently with anyone out there so bring it.... After Tuesday, I have them ranked: Katharine, Chris, Elliott, Taylor, Paris, Ace, Kellie. Since Ace is gone, obviously I think Kellie should be gone next.

World Cup fever is approaching with the first match June 9th. I do admit to loving watching the World Cup because it is so much more of a diverse and worldly audience than any of our American Sports. Most people in the US could care less but it's a sport that is not full of drug-doping over-paid cry babies. Most want to win the cup for their sense of national pride. We don't have that much in this country.

One thing that is starting to annoy me is junk mail. I don't get the telemarketers much and I think that National Do Not Call thing might actually work. But I get anywhere from 2 to 8 credit card applications a day. I hate how the more debt I pay off, the more applications I get. That makes no sense whatsoever! I've heard ideas about doing a "return to sender" on all of them and mailing them back, but last night - Matt had a good idea of opening them up and returning the empty envelope that is prepaid back to the company. That forces the company to have to pay for that postage, plus they will have no idea where it came from. So I think i'll try that. It takes an extra minute out of my day and it won't really decrease the amount of junk mail I get per day, but maybe I'll sleep better:)

Song of the Day - I still think I'm the only person in the world that likes to work out to Classical Music. Seriously - I think it goes faster with a longer piece of music that I know inside and out than it does with a bunch of pop music that is overplayed. Today I had a great run to Tschaikovsky's 5th Symphony - the final movement (no, not bowel movement... that joke is getting old!) I was able to get a full mile in today at 10 minutes, 40 seconds. Need to shave another 40 seconds off, but that's a good start for a fat guy like me! My goal by the end of the summer is a 5k run (3.1 miles) in 30 minutes. Remember, I have an extra 150 pounds on most of you people that have run their whole lives!

Video of the Day - I almost forgot about the Easter 2006 Movie.... we pulled out some old school Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade to watch. That was 1989!!! I feel old yet again:) There are still plans to film a 4th movie with Spielberg and Lucas behind it, and Harrison Ford on screen. I'm excited to see yet another victory over the Nazis!!

Webpage of the Day - This is unusual. Playboy is coming out with the Girls of the Big 12 for this Fall and are recruiting at all of the schools (any Iowa State readers out there that want to pose???) Baylor (which is traditionally conservative) has issued a statement that any enrolled women that pose for the magazine will be "dealt with". To me, that's crossing the line.

Your World News Headquarters

So what's in the news this week?

Rumsfeld is under fire from several retired generals. That is not what surprises me (the generals are all about publicity at this point so when they continue to write controversial books, people will have more exposure to the situation which means more money in their pockets.... funny how that works). But what does surprise me is the way Dub-ya handled it. "I'm the decider and I decide what's best". Well thanks for playing Georgie. Look around you and you might want to decide on some other things for once and improve this country and your approval rating. They should redefine the term "lame duck president". Usually it refers to the period after the election before the new president takes office (the two months of November and December) but Bush takes it to a new level since he can't be re-elected.

Gas is rising and rising again. They predict that it will top out in May! HA! Watch it go baby!!! $2.82 in Rochester today. I need a new car - tired of paying about 20 cents per mile that I drive. If I didn't have to worry about hauling my bass around, I probably would find something else. I do own 2/3 of my truck as of this week!! YAY!

NHL regular season is over - now comes the best time of the year with the playoffs! Get those beards started! NBA will be finishing this week as well. Not sure who I'm cheering for....

And I'm getting tired of hearing about the Duke La Crosse rape scandal. I think it's because the media attention isn't giving people an awareness, it's giving too much exposure to the athletes. I in no way condone their actions (whether it be the rape, or the hiring of a dancer), but I'm wondering a few things..... would there have been this much press if it would have happened at San Wherever State, and not at Duke that is so nationally known. Would there be this much delay if it would have been Duke's men's basketball and not the La Crosse team?

And baby Suri is born to Tom and Katie. Blah....

Golf league starts tonight at Oaks Summit for us. It's not nearly as long as bowling season (20 weeks?) and much more enjoyable.

I did not have time to watch AI last night due to my rehearsals in La Crosse (the city in Wisconsin, not the rape-scandalous sport). I will catch up on it tonight and discuss Ace's departure tomorrow!

Tonya comes home today most likely!

Song of the Day - I FINALLY found the song that has been played on the radio and I know it to be a fake! She Says by Howie Day is playing on mainstream radio right now and the bridge/chorus is a total rip off of Dave Matthew's Band Crush (Off of the Before These Crowded Streets album). So here's what you do..... listen to all of the DMB version, then bring up iTunes and do a search on She Says and listen to the free 30 second version and you'll see what I'm talking about. You heard it here first!

Video of the Day - Usually I'm a huge fan of hockey fights, but this one isn't right. It's those dang hockey coaches I tell you. Funniest thing is how they're on the same team!

Webpage of the Day - The great Peep Jousting page!! A longer read, but well worth the time for those fans of Peeps and especially Peeps in the microwave! GO PURPLE!!

Gas Went Down 1 cent! YAY!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to my friend Tonya. She had surgery yesterday and word late last night was that everything went well and she is recovering just fine. Tonya is the world's biggest fan of Ace from American Idol and somehow he's still around.... just for her. I'm sure he dedicates tonight's performance to you Tonya! Get well soon so Hazel has someone to talk about shopping with!

Rehearsal tonight for our final concert of the season. Tickets are always available if anyone is interested in coming. It'll be NEXT weekend in La Crosse. On tap is some really good music that will be recognizable from anyone that's watched Television over the past 50 years. Tschaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture is a fun piece to listen to and this will be my first time playing it. I know the love theme is used in many movies and commercials so everyone can sing along! I remember off hand that it was used in Bond's Moonraker when Jaws and the Jaws-ette find each other on the space station after thinking they lost each other. It's a great work based on Shakespeare and you can hear the different parts of the story - the fighting, the lovers, the gloom that foreshadows the lovers and their fate, and of course the death at the end.

We're also playing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue which is also in commercials for I think Delta. Or is it United? I can't remember but it's another recognizable piece that mixes Jazz and Classical for Piano and Orchestra. Again, this will be my first time playing the piece. We're also playing an overture by Dvorak which is big and loud! Plus a world premiere of a jazzy piano concerto that we don't even have all of the music for. I hate playing premieres with the composer sitting in rehearsal because it just means that there will be a lot of mistakes in parts to spend time on correcting and arguing with the composer what the note should really be. It really is frustrating to play a new piece since you have nothing to base it on. Or is that "bass" it on? Haha!

I also thought this webpage was extremely interesting and it makes me aware that I do the same thing when I read pages. Not that I design web pages, but something to keep in mind for anyone that does web development! I tend to agree with the findings. I'm more curious in the heatmap tracking capabilities!! Do they put "la-zers" on people's eye balls to see where they are looking??? Can we get some sharks with freak-in "lazer beams" please????

Song of the Day - Tonight is Rod Stewart night on American Idol.... so in honor of Stewart, I pulled out all the songs I have by him and came up with...... um..... what does he sing? I seriously think the only thing worse than Rod Stewart Night would be Michael Bolton Night! There was nothing wrong with it.... until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys. Best use of the term "ass clown" EVER!!

Video of the Day - A good use of the parking brake to do what else??? PARKING! This is a good skill to learn:) It still doesn't compare to Pitzen parallel parking the 15 passenger van in Milwaukee with one hand on the wheel and one hand talking on his cell phone. That was still one of the more impressive things I've seen!

Webpage of the Day - GM spends $17 million on erectile dysfunction drugs! Seriously! Those NASCAR commercials are paying off for the companies! I'm always amazed at how many Viagra and Cialis commercials there are during races. What are they trying to say???

Happy Tax Day

For those that are lazy and procrastinate, you have till midnight tonight to get your taxes in. Unless you live in certain New England states... then you have till tomorrow since today is "New England Day"?!?!?!?! What the.... I declare today Minnesota Day. No mail today. Like we need more excuses not to let the post office be open. "Columbus's 3rd Voyage's 2nd Assistant" Day!!! NO MAIL!!!!

Sorry for the late blog today. I had a good workout this morning, then was scheduled to give blood at 8am today. They had to use a vein on the side of my arm and I think I'm glad I have 2 months off with no needles in my arms. They need the time to heal. I'd make a horrible drug user. Not sure how they can poke themselves as often as they do. Guess I'll have to stick with snorting stuff if I ever decide to go full-time drug user. I did enter the "2 gallon" donated club. I'll have to add that to my resume.

We had a wonderful Easter in Ames with some good friends, good music, and of course, good eats!! I love cooking for everyone after our church performance and made some Ham, Homemade Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole (using fresh green beans!), strawberry jello desert, Jen's kick a$ Romain Lettuce Salad, rolls, and Sonia made her famous Mac & Cheese. I need to eat more Mac & Cheese. In the words of Bare Naked Ladies - "If I had a Million Dollars.... But we would eat Kraft Dinner.... of course we would, we'd just eat more. And buy really expensive Ketchup and things.... fanciest DI-JON KETCHUPS!!!"

My new phone from Cingular kicks major butt. I had to buy the USB connection program for $30 but that made transferring phone numbers over from my old phone a lot easier. I can also have all of my phone numbers synced up in case I ever lose them. I also figured out how to transfer over MP3s already and will play with the pictures this morning to continue to customize the phone. I have a sound clip "HOORAY FOR HAZEL" when Hazel calls, and of course the TROGDOR theme song when Pat calls me. This stuff is fun.

And congrats to the Detroit Red Wings who are hot as any team in the NHL right now (9-0-1 in their last 10, haven't lost in regulation since March 7th. I like it when they enter the playoffs on a roll... that's usually trouble for the other 15 teams trying to win the Red Wing Stanley Cup. Playoffs start this weekend I do believe. Not sure if they'll be on TV or not.... we shall see who picks up the coverage.

Song of the Day - It's Tax Day, so I'm listening to Pink Floyd's Money. Has one of the classic openings to any song that everyone should be identifiable. Plus a kick ass bass line that everyone knows and loves!!! YAY!

Video of the Day
- We watched Memoirs of a Geisha this weekend and I guess I thought it was overhyped. In preparation of tomorrow night's AI I'll use the line - "It was just ok for me.... dawg". The cinematogrphy and costumes were cool, but the plot was long and Peter-Jackson-esque 2.5 hours long!

Webpage of the Day - Simple math... that doesn't add up. This will make your head hurt. (hint: don't divide by zero). Mom, use these on your 8th graders and see what they think.

Happy Easter Day Weekend!!

Happy Easter to everyone! It's Good Friday and there seems to be nobody at work today.

I am officially on Cingular. It only took about a 15 minute phone call this morning to make sure everything was switched over and working with the account. I think the reason it had so many issues was because of me porting over my old phone number to a new company. No big deal, but I do have to transfer all of my old numbers over - YUCK!!!

Easter is probably my favorite holiday - not only because of the annual gathering in Ames for some fun music and great eats, but because it's the biggest holiday to Christians in terms of importance. It is this holiday that separates us from other religions that believe Jesus was just a prophet. I also enjoy it so much more than the other holidays for the following reasons:

1) No reason to become stressed like people naturally do at Christmas
2) Much more rare to have bad weather on Easter than on Thanksgiving
3) The Easter Bunny is much cooler than Santa
4) Easter Candy is 2nd only to Valentine's Day candy... but on V-Day you're expected to give it to someone else.
5) Easter was the first holiday where I found my presents (A GI Joe Jeep - with cannon and Lego Space Set) and after putting some more details together, I figured out the true identity of the Easter Bunny (sorry if this is the first you've heard of it Pitzen - Santa is still real!!)
6) Easter also means that golf season is right around the corner!!!!

So Happy Easter to all of you! I'm hitting the Spam museum this afternoon with Hazel and her family. Don't worry, I'll take lots of pictures!!! In this time of reflection, I'm thankful for the billions of things that God has blessed me with - including all of you, my family and friends.... and all the unknown millions of fans out there! Put your faith in the Lord and you will see what He is truely capable of!!

Song of the Day - I'm going to pull out some Take 6 today (Gospel/Jazz A Cappella group that also dabbles in some R&B) and one of my favorite songs by them is Sunday's On The Way that is a song about Satan getting his way and finally killing off this dude named Christ.... well, on the third day... Guess who wins? I also have a recording of Wynton Marsalis Septet performing another Easter themed song in Jazz form of The Death of Jazz - Oh But on the 3rd Day which also starts out with a slow march-like death theme.... that turns into a Dixiland Jazz type celebration on that 3rd Day when Christ rose to victory!

Video of the Day - This is an easy one today. My own personal Easter Tradition has been to watch Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's straight out of the 70s which makes it cool with the afros and the hippie clothing! Some people still think of the musical as anti-religious, but I actually find parts of it inspiring. One of my favorite lines that is the basis of my personal faith is when Jesus is praying in the Garden of Gethsemane and says "God, thy will is hard... but you hold every card". How cool and true is that?

Webpage of the Day - On a different note, I forgot to throw this one out earlier in the week, but this is insane. Why spend $2000 on LASIK surgery when you can order this Home kit for $100!!! I am so curious how people decide to try to put an unknown laser into their eyes like this..... Make sure you check out the "How it Works" and "Four Easy Steps" tabs at the top!

Bye Bucky

Yay - Bucky finally goes home on American Idol. Boy did they drag that out for the full hour though! Need to stop watching that one live and just rely on the DVR to save me 55 minutes. I did catch Unan1mous though which is still interesting, but also getting dragged out way too long! So with AI, I would say the "2nd level" of folks are left. Bucky was in the lower level all along. I still think it'll come down to Chris, Katharine, or Paris. I'm fighting to get rid of Kellie soon since she still annoys the crap out of me.

I will be a customer of Cingular by the end of the day today. Once my phone is delivered and I activate it I can say "so long Sprint.... you bastards!!"

Plans are underway for our trip to Ames for Easter this weekend. Once again, there will be a large scale performance at the Grand Avenue Baptist Church under the baton of Maestro Johnson. We are bringing in the best string players from around the country (as always) to play the Easter Service, then it will be time for some good Easter eating. We're playing some new music this year which will add to the experience - plus we've recruited the multi-talented Hazel to play with us this year as well on 2nd Violin! I have yet to be contacted to bring my harpsichord. Maybe next year!

I keep seeing previews for the movie United 93. I'm not sure this movie should have been made and released already. I know I'm not ready to relive it so soon. When we were at the House on the Rock on Monday, they had a display featuring the front page of the NY Times in times of war in our nation's history. They also had one from the day after 9/11 with pictures of the crash into the WTC. I'm not ready to relive that yet and it'll be interesting to see all the commotion later in the month when United 93 hits the theatres.

Last for today - SONGS THAT SHOULDN'T BE PLAYED WHEN PEOPLE ARE WORKING OUT!!! Today I heard a bunch of songs/artists that I'd like to permanently add to that list.... Gloria Estefan, Phil Collins (or Genesis... whatever the difference is), Huey Lewis.... that's just the start of my list but it's enough for today. Who is inspired to sweat when they hear that crap?

Song of the Day - In honor of Bucky going home forever, I found the Simpsons' Cletus theme song for your enjoyment!!!

Video of the Day - Speaking of Trailers.... here's the preview for the new Simpsons Movie for anyone that missed it. Short but still humorous!

Webpage of the Day - Thanks to Heather for today's suggestion - Men who look like Kenny Rogers..... dot com! I'm serious! There are a lot of similarities - know anyone that should be on this list?

Queen for a Day

Happy Birthday Kaycee!!! Kaycee is 5 today I believe! And she probably would be better fit to be a Princess for a Day. For pictures of this exciting and energetic young lady, go here...... (and wish her a Happy Birthday!!)

American Idol had "Queen" night last night and I thought it was rather well done. A heck of a lot better than Country Night last week. Although when a non-Freddy Mercury is singing, it sounds a lot more like "Best of Broadway". I should have my mom watch and let me know what she thinks.... she's one of the biggest Queen fans I've ever known. Just shows where I inherited my superior taste in music listening. I didn't inherit the listening to AM talk shows with guys whose name starts with "R" and rhymes with "Rush" like my dad. Even though... here's my ranking for last night including my bottom 3.

1) Elliott - even though he's not well liked, I thought he was easily the best performance on a tough song
2) Chris - I didn't like the song either, but he still kicks ass
3) Katharine - Good song
4) Taylor - He plays the nut role so well - how long will it last?
5) Paris - I think she's still one of the best in here, but not sure why the bottom 3 last week
6) Kellie - she has too many honkey friends that will vote but I still think she's bottom 3
7) TIE with Duece and Bucky..... both were pretty horrible and I'd prefer Bucky to go home (Ace has had a few decent performances). I predict Ambiguously Gay Ace is going home.

Since I'll be on Cingular next week, I can start texting to vote rather than messing with the busy 866 numbers.

Write it down now - I am predicting Gas prices to reach $3.19 this summer. Could be as early as Memorial Day weekend. You heard it here first! There is no reason right now to justify the $2.69 prices but they are still high. Demand is down, production up, gas futures are down.... .they just do it because nobody is stopping them. Expect another record quarter profit for the gas companies.

It's Wednesday - Easter is only a couple of days away. I like Easter because it is pretty close to a stress-free holiday. I hate Christmas because everyone gets so worked up and worried about things. Plus in the Midwest you have weather issues to deal with for travel. Plus with companies like IBM, we have end of the year revenue to worry about. In the middle of April like this, there's nothing to do but eat, be with friends and/or family, and relax while you celebrate the true meaning of this holiday when Christ defeated Satan and evil and gives us all a reason to wake up in the mornings - knowing that someday we will be with him forever in a place where there is no pain, no sin, no evil... no country music.

Song of the Day - The Queen song I was hoping would be performed last night was Bicycle Race but not sure who could have sang it.... Maybe Taylor?? The lyrics are dumb, but it has a great melody that might have been good for someone on AI. Too bad for them. BI-cycle, BI-cycle, BI-CYCLE!

Video of the Day
- In honor of TonyA's boy Ace probably going home tonight on AI - I found a page full of video clips of the Ambiguously Gay Duo. For those that are wondering what I keep talking about with "Ace and Gary", here you go. It's a bunch of clips from a cartoon that used to run on Saturday Night Live. You have to watch it but it's quite funny!

Webpage of the Day - In my rare moments of issuing a PSA - anyone that uses Baush and Lomb (ReNu) Contact Solution should stop doing so immediately and read this link.... luckily I use Target brand since I'm ultra cheap like that!!

Back From Mini-Vacation

I'm back like a vertebrae!! Tired of being in a car, but I'm at work today (YUCK), it's definitely spring here in Southern Minnesota, and now I only have a 4 day work week!!! YEE-HAW!!

First, the important things.... I'M OFFICIALLY SWITCHING TO CINGULAR! I made the plunge this morning and ordered a new phone (Motorola RAZR) and switched my number over. I was able to "port" my old number so there should be no difference for most of you (different voice mail I guess). Sprint just frustrated me too much and I've had that same phone for the past 3 years so it was time for a change!

This past weekend was a blast. Haven't had a chance to download all of my pictures yet but will do that soon! Hazel and I headed to Madison Saturday morning and hung out with Eddie and Juanita all weekend. It was nice to see Mamma Kusmider and Eddie's Sister as well... and I finally met Eddie's niece Emily (is everyone named Emily from now on? Some Utopian sci-fi flick where "special" children are named Emily????) Sunday night we hit a recital at the University in Madison (review yet to come later today) of a friend of mine from the La Crosse Symphony. Monday we drove to the House on the Rock (about 40 minutes on this side of Madison) and had an awesome time. For anyone that hasn't been there, I suggest going. It's a house built into a cliff and the house itself is amazingly unique... but the extra displays and collections is what makes it more fun to go through! They've added so much that I don't remember when I went as a kid! Well worth the trip over there! (less than 3 hours from Rochester). Then last night we drove to Winona and met some more of Hazel's friends and hit a concert on Campus last night. Then came home and slept in my own bed which was nice!

And this is the LAST week of Lent. Which means I can have some coffee and pop very soon. The "no alcohol" never bothers me, but this "no caffeine" that I did this year was the hard part. Just not a lot of other options to drink when we go out other than the normal water.

AI is on tap for tonight - any predictions? I'm done wishing Bucky off the show... watch him win somehow.

Have a great Tuesday!

Song of the Day - There's a lot of music displays at the House on the Rock. They have these displays that you can put in a token (or two for the bigger ones) and they have instruments that are machine played with some different classical music. The one that I enjoyed was the Saint-Saens Danse Macabre display but now that song is still going through my head. I should be able to listen to it today and move on to the next song roaming around up there.

Video of the Day - We watched Jarhead the other day. It was interesting but once I started figuring out what the base of the plot was going to be, I was upset. I didn't like how they focused on a group that went to the Iraq war and didn't do anything the whole time they were there. There are too many soldiers going to Iraq that do go through pure hell and I didn't like how the movie took the focus away from them.

Webpage of the Day - It might be too late for April Fool's jokes... but you can still pull a joke on your significant other by using this "Positive Pregnancy Test to scare your friends". There are some sick people out there! Only on eBay!

Monday in Madison

Hazel and I are leaving Madison this morning. We'll stop for a while at the House on the Rock (I'm sure I'll have some neat pictures to post from there) and then a concert tonight in Winona. I'll be back to normal tomorrow. As normal as things usually are for me;)

Eddie's doing well - has a very nice home here in Madison. He has some more scans this week to determine what all the fire breathing rabbits did and how best to start recovery. He's getting around pretty well on crutches and I still wouldn't mess with him if I didn't know better. Kind of like going up to Chuck Norris on crutches..... just one look and you'll still feel the pain even though he doesn't even touch you!

Have a great Monday!

Warm It Up Show!! (I'm About To)

In shocking news, Eminem is re-divorcing his wife Kim after only 3 months back together. So expect more songs with lyrics like "I hate you Kim" and "I want to chop you up and throw you in the trunk of my car Kim" that we're accustomed to on his next album. There were rumors about him leaving the rap business but maybe he was just uninspired so he got back together with her to find inspiration for his creative side?!?! I am indeed an Eminem fan (as I know you are too Pitzen) and would like to see him continue to attract people to the world of rap that normally might not approach it.

Thanks for the interesting article Holly, but after the first round, Tiger has some work to do to give us the Tiger/Phil final day pairing. I agree - it would be fun to watch. Singh is kicking butt again (which putter is he using this time?) They need to stream the golf like they did with the NCAA Men's Tournament a couple of weeks ago. I did find a page that talks about what clubs were used by Arnold Palmer and Nicklaus in their primes, compared to what Tiger used in 1997 and 2005..... it's really interesting to see how much longer Tiger can hit than the others with the newer technology. For instance the 18th hole (Holly... that's the name of the hole) is 465 yards and Palmer would use Driver, 7-iron to get on, Nicklaus a Driver then 5-iron.... Tiger, 3-wood, 8-iron (or in 97 - Driver, SW). I think I'd use a 5 iron off the tee then a 9-iron into the hole. IT'S IN DA HOLE!!!

In politics, approval ratings for everyone take another dive. Bush is at 36% approval (too many of you need to wake up), Congress is worse at 30% (expect a lot of changes this year hopefully.... I'd like to see a ton of new people in their both Dems and Reps). And last I had heard, Cheney's ratings were in the teens. Nice.... And Libby seems to be squirming and throwing out everyone's name as to who's responsible by now saying it was Dub-ya himself that authorized the leak. I wouldn't be surprised. Our government is horrid any more. I don't trust any of them and think we need to cut their pay till things turn around.

And in lighter news Paris and Nicole are still filming The Simple Life 4 but are no longer talking to each other. This is actually quite humorous to follow and read what each one says. Remember, these are grown adults in their 20s talking and each one has more money than ANY of you will ever see!!! Paris speaking here:

"She cannot stand being around me because I get all the attention and people really don'’t care about her," Hilton said. "“It breaks my heart. She was my sister. She was the funniest, best person to be around and then she let fame go to her head. She's not the same person any more. I never want to speak to her again, ever." She continued: "I've been best friends with her since I was two, but when I brought her onto my show, she got very jealous and turned on me for no reason."

Sounds pretty pathetic, yes - but you have to admit, it's very entertaining for today.

I'm off to Madison this weekend with the lovely and beautiful Hazel to hang out with Eddie and Juanita. I'd like to take this time to wish Eddie some get well wishes after Eddie messed up his foot/ankle. He was rushed to the emergency room and gets a nice cast. I'll sign it for all of you and take pictures, don't worry! So our host this weekend is now Gimpy Eddie. His story on how it happened was pretty boring, so I'll make one up. He was in the back yard shooting wild tigers that are in this new development area where his new house is.... in Madison. He had just taken out two of them with one shot, when a FIRE BREATHING RABBIT came out of nowhere and bit him on the leg and then proceeded to kick the crap out of him. On his way out, it left a bunch of spots in his yard to rub it in. Don't worry Eddie, we'll get that Rabbit before I leave this weekend!

So not sure if I'll blog before we get back Monday night or not. I will be back on Tuesday for sure! Have a great weekend!

Song of the Day - Have to go with some Eminem this morning. Lose Yourself is one of the best rap songs in my mind (I'm no expert but I do appreciate rap, unlike most of you). It's also one of the most over played rap songs unfortunately.

Video of the Day - This is pretty cool, but requires sound of course. A guy plays the Super Mario theme on an 11 string bass! Troy, let's see you work this one up. Even the coin sound at the end of the level is performed!!

Webpage of the Day - This will piss you off too - Government loses more than $1 million in foreign contributions to help with the recovery of Hurricane Katrina. WTF?!?!?! Yet another reason to hate the government this week.

Things That Make You Go Hmmmmmm......

Mandisa says goodbye this week on American Idol. WTF!?!? When does Bucky go back to the hole he came from?

Why do the losing people from Idol sing the song that they basically "lost" with? Wouldn't you sing something else?

What was up with the bottom 3 this week? I had those 3 in the top 6.

Why is the song Bad Day used every week when they show the flashbacks of each contestant? Isn't there any other song that's popular right now?

Why don't the judges say anything after the guests sing? I want to hear what Paula has to say to someone that has sold 100 times as many records as she could ever hope of selling.

Does anyone lose sleep not knowing what happened on the Apprentice?

Any guesses who's going to win Unan1mous? Any guesses how much cash will be left? Psycho Kelly is gone but this thing is far from done. Is there any way to get this thing over with faster or is it going to last as long as American Idol?

Are we done electing intellectuals to our government and now have this McKinney idiot claiming racial profiling when she BYPASSED A METAL DETECTOR? How the heck is that racial profiling? What an idiot!

Speaking of idiots... DeLay will not run for re-election. Is anybody going to miss him? Typical Washington crook claiming to do nothing wrong. Whatever.

Any predictions to win the Masters this weekend? Does anyone have the cahones to beat against Tiger?

Can Katie Couric save CBS? Do people still watch news on a television when there's a thing called the "world wide web".

Will anyone miss me as I give platelets again in the morning.... have a good Thursday!

Joseph - The Next American Idol

One thing I've learned in life... What Jill wants, Jill gets. So here are your pictures of Joseph. He's doing so well and O'Riley is already taking care of the new guy around the house. Need to teach Riles how to change diapers now! Click on the picture for a bigger and better shot at the not-so-little guy.

Now that that is over with - this was the worst night of American Idol.... EVER! Hunky's night on AI, shoot me now. It brought back good ol' memories of Hunky's though and $5 all you can drink night. Ah, what would we have done on Thursday nights without it....

Most overused statements that need to disappear before next season (next week would be even better):

- Just ok for me
- You made it your own
- "Dawg"
- Twang twangity twang twang twanggggggg....

On that note, I do want to give Simon props for the Desperate Housewives reference and Seacrest (rumored to be with Terry Hatcher). Paula still sounded drunk which is no surprise.

My reviews (including the bottom three - you just count from the bottom from "one" till you get to three Pitzen) - Not that the overall rankings matter, only the bottom 3:

Chris Daughtry - Let the boy sing rock please!!! This week can't end soon enough.....
Katharine McPhee - That kicked ass.... only performance tonight that did. She gets my vote tonight.
Kellie Hickler - She still doesn't do it for me. She's still too dumb to win this thing, her comedic purpose is losing appeal.
Paris Bennett - I'd put her possibly in the top 2 overall after this week.
Duece Young - gotta give him props, he performed non-country and I was happy. Tonya, your boy done good.
Mandisa - Sang fine, just don't look at what she's wearing - WTF!
**********************CUT OFF***********************************
Elliott Yamin - "it was just ok for me".... this country night sucks.
Taylor Hicks - He'll be around next week... but not too long after that.
Bucky "the slack jawed yokel" - they put him last on purpose. I still think he goes home this week. His country performance sucked considering that's all he can sing. Note that Bucky is married---- interesting.

In National News.... our "morale" administration keeps on clicking as the 4th highest ranked official was arrested for soliciting a teenage girl. The worst part of the article isn't what the sick-o did... it's the fact that he was "placed on administrative leave".... FIRE HIS ASS ALREADY!!!!! What happened to zero tolerance, especially for our federal governmental employees. In the business world, that guy would no longer be an employee. Anyways....

Song of the Day - In honor of country night, I pull out my very short list of favorite country songs to share with you. Of course you have to have She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy by Kenny (have fun at the concert tonight Nikki), and Fishin in the Dark. That's all I'm in the mood for today.

Video of the Day - This was too funny.... THE TOOT TONE!!! No wonder so many cell phones go off in public!!! Thanks Wyatt for the submission today.

Webpage of the Day - for all of you AI freaks that have watched every season (I'll admit that I haven't and some of these names are foreign to me), you'll enjoy this article "How do current Idols stack up to the old ones?" And you thought Clay Aiken had disappeared.

Early Morning.... April 4th

Today is the commemorative day of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. His work for striving for equality in America is unmatched in my mind in our country's history. He's become a role model for so many and an example of how to get things changed peacefully. I wish we had a modern equivalent of him in the 21st Century that again we are faced with challenges in this country that don't get addressed. Our government can no longer be looked to when seeking role models, we need another figure like King to show us patience and forgiveness.... virtues all of us should have. I find it amazing how kids no longer aspire to be President of the United States, or even working in other governmental positions. And when you ask most people about government, it's usually a distasteful one.... what's happened? And now we have over priced athletes being our role models just because they can sell out and appear on TV more than the other guys..... interesting, isn't it?

And to celebrate his legacy.... Israel fires missiles into the Gaza strip at Abbas' compound.... great, just great. Too many idiots running the world right now.

Anyway - congrats to Florida on their ass whoopin last night of.... doesn't matter. Nobody ever remembers the 2nd place team. In the minds of most people though, nobody really cared who won and I have a feeling that most of the ratings will be a lot lower than in the past with bigger named programs.

Red Wings won last night as well in a shootout. Yzerman got yet another goal in his amazing career. Detroit also tied the NHL record for most road victories in a season with plenty of chances to break that record. They're clicking on all cylinders right now which is good for getting ready for the upcoming playoffs.

And Augusta is this weekend in the golf world. Fun watching professionals play the same course every year with such different results.... ahhhh, the joys of golfing! Any early favorites???? besides Tiger of course.

Song of the Day - Obviously today's song is U2's Pride (In the Name of Love) in honor of Dr. King. I just read that Stevie Wonder wrote a song Happy Birthday for Dr. King as well. Interesting, interesting.....

Video of the Day - We keep on chugging through Hitchcock movies. We viewed The Birds which was just strange but still good. I kept laughing at a young Jessica Tandy though. She drove herself in this movie (even drove a boat across a lake on her own) so no Drivin Miss Daisy..... We also watched Notorious (no B.I.G. in this movie) which I enjoyed but it wasn't a typical mystery suspenseful movie that we usually associate with Hitchcock. It had Ingrid Bergman in it (she was quite attractive... even for black and white) and Cary Grant. Not sure which one is next but we still have a ton to go!!

Webpage of the Day - Someone's list of the 50 Greatest Independent Films. I was relieved that I've seen more than half of the films and all but one of the top 10. Interesting read (and quick for those that actually work during the day)

Have a great Wednesday! AI on tonight and I'm actually voting this week.... who for? Find out tomorrow!!

Play Ball!!

Congratulations to Drew and Kristi and welcome to Joseph Michael. All are doing well as Hazel and I stopped by last night to check up on the family. She'll go home today for some much deserved rest.

In racing news, Boy wasn't too happy to see Kenseth get in a wreck Sunday. It's called Karma and that's what he gets for driving like an idiot the previous week.

Here's something that really bothered me though..... all through the race we kept seeing commercials for Subway with their new garlic bread. So of course I gave in and had to have Subway for dinner last night. Only problem was that the guy said they don't get the new bread till tomorrow. What a crock of crap!! I hate advertising......

I also saw the teaser trailer for the new Simpsons movie coming out in July of 2007. WTF?!?!? Why bother having a teaser trailer for it when it's this far away? I just hope it doesn't kill the series like it has a knack of doing when TV shows go for the big bucks of a motion picture. Look at Southpark, Beavis and Butthead, Mr. Bean.... what other ones am I missing?

Baseball started last night (even though it was rained out in the 4th inning)!! YEAH!!! Here are my beginning of the season predictions:

AL Playoffs - Red Sox (go Ginter!), Indians, A's.... Wild Card to the Yankees unfortunately. Indians make the World Series.

NL Playoffs - Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers.... Wild Card to the Mets. Braves to the World Series.

Braves win it all in 6 Games!!!! They still have a great starting rotation in Smoltz, Hampton, Hudson, and even Sosa (not Sammy). Plus they have experience in Remlinger... just have to see if they can have strong closing (probably Reitsma again). Plus good riddance to Furcal and welcome to Edgar Renteria at Short Stop!! He's a huge addition that is just as good of a fielder as Furcal was, but a lot better hitter (and smarter!). Now if everyone can just stay healthy all season long!! The Braves were 10th in Payroll last year.... I don't think they'll move any higher this year than that - so no giving them crap about being "the Yankees of the NL". Blah!

Song of the Day - This really pissed me off when I saw it. Courtney Love is not only responsible for killing Cobain (in my mind), she is now selling out Nirvana's music because she's broke. She pisses me off - I'll just have to listen to some Nirvana this morning before it hits all the commercials on TV.

Video of the Day - I watched King Kong (American title: LONGEST MOVIE KNOWN TO MAN) yesterday. I enjoyed it and thought they did a lot of good work with the visual effects, I just thought it was way too long. You know my short attention span problem anyways, this movie only made it worse. There were a lot of scenes where I thought he could have cut some out or even skipped all together, but I'm not a director. Jackson is rumored to next redo Ishtar into a 4 hour film.
