Almost Spring

Four things are bothering me this morning:

First - The results of the "I Lost it at the RAC" competition were announced yesterday. With weigh in starting in January and final weigh in the first week of March, it was an 8 week program designed to motivate folks to lose as much weight as possible. The winners (one by total weight lost, one by % body mass lost) would receive a free month of membership (a $70 value!!). I clocked in at losing 34.7 pounds in the 8 weeks... a great showing if I do say so! Well the GRAND PRIZE winner lost 37 pounds. Some dude beat me by 2 pounds. I WANT A RECOUNT! Stupid Florida, they always screw things up. They did post the entire "honorable mention" list of anyone who lost over 10 pounds and I was #2 on the list, preceded by the 37 pound dude. 2nd place is not good enough for me this time. Oh well, just needed to vent about it.

The second thing that bothered me from this past weekend was at the club we were at Saturday evening, there was a dude in the bathroom that turns the faucet on for you, hands you a towel, sells you perfume or cigars, etc, and then you're supposed to tip him. There's something creepy about a dude that stands there while you do your duties. I refuse to tip someone that does something I didn't ask for and I don't need. Especially in the men's restroom. The men's restroom is where you go to get your stuff done and leave, not a social place, not a place to meet people and exchange pleasantries. He would turn the water on for everyone, but I'd shut it off and then walk right by him (knowing there were paper towels on the other side of him). Sorry, it just is a little weird. I'm sure Brian made friends with him though!

Third - The Iowa State women lost yesterday - their season is over... a good week and a half after the men's season. Now back to the football season ahead of us. GO CLONES!!!

Finally - Did you see that postal rates are going up yet again? 41 cents to mail a first class letter now. Playing the "I remember" game - I do honestly remember 25 cent stamps. Not sure I remember anything before that because I would write the letters and my wonderful mother (or father) took care of the rest. I do use stamps unfortunately, about 3 a month. So I'm losing 6 cents a month now. Guess I didn't really even know what the current rate was (39 cents) since all the stamps I buy don't have the price, just the Statue of Liberty. Now when I mail something to BellyItcher, he'll have even more money to owe! Sorry again about that!

On another random note, we are picking out paint colors tonight.... any suggestions? I still want to do an Iowa State room someday in my house, but not right now. With cardinal and gold pin stripes around the room! That'd be awesome! Someday..... someday....

Haiku of the Day
Lots of folks flying
For work as well as pleasure
Hope it doesn't snow

Entertainment of the Day - I caught up on the new James Bond movie yesterday, Casino Royale. It was pretty good, not my favorite James Bond movie, but not my least favorite by far either. It was a little weird how this is the first of the Ian Fleming novels, but the 21st movie. It was also a little weird how the technology and the story take place in modern times, but the story is supposed to precede all the other stories. Daniel Craig as Bond was pretty good as well. Again, not the best - but far better than Pierce Brosnan was in his first role as Bond. As for the Bond girl, Eva Green.... I'd put her in my top 5 Bond girls for now. She's only 26 in real life - I'm getting OLD!

Weblink of the Day - Further web controversies with someone doing a heck of a job on this advertisement for Obama. It's for Democrats and fans of Apple computers alike! And if you fit into neither category, I'm sorry to hear that.

In the Philippines those restroom guys give backrubs too. Imagine how creepy that would be!
