30 Down and 30 to Go

Happy Birthday Matt!

It was a birthday weekend with lots of typical Memorial Day grilling. Ma and Pa came to visit for a few days and the weather decided to finally start feeling like summer. I said goodbye to my "20 somethings" and I am now officially "old". It did cause me to reflect on what I've done in the 30 years I've now been on this earth and realized there is still so much I want to do. So I now give you my next list to try to cross things off of. Check back in 30 years and see how I'm doing:

30 things I want to do in the next 30 years that I didn't do in my first 30 years:
  1. Run a 5k and a 10k run... maybe more?
  2. "Disappear" to New Zealand for 2 weeks
  3. Publish something - my daily "publish post" on my blog doesn't count nor do letters to the editor
  4. Parachute out of a perfectly good airplane
  5. Have a pet of my own - non-fish
  6. Race an overnight package via car on it's delivery somewhere over 1500 miles
  7. Travel to the Southern Hemisphere
  8. Spend time on each continent except Antarctica... no desire to go there
  9. Watch part of each of the 4 major tennis tournaments [for those wondering, that'd be Australian Open, French Open (Paris), Wimbledon (London-ish), and US Open in NYC]
  10. See my Cyclones in a New Years Day Bowlgame
  11. ProBowl trip to Hawaii (NFL)
  12. Witness an Elephant in it's native environment
  13. See an Opera at the NY Met
  14. Go to the top of many more of the newest Skyscrapers going up currently
  15. Partake in all of the following in their "local" celebrations
    • Oktoberfest in Germany
    • Carnival in Brazil
    • Chinese New Year in China
    • St. Patrick's Day in Ireland
  16. World Cup in host country
  17. Olympics in host country (non-US)
  18. Star Wars Marathon (Episode 1-6 in one day) - yeah, I'm a nerd like that.
  19. Beat Super Mario Brothers 1 (can't get past 8-2 but haven't tried in the "new" era)
  20. See and pet a live manatee
  21. Be able to do at least one unassisted chinup/pullup
  22. Witness and touch Lord Stanley's Cup
  23. More Brewery Trips - still need to get to Coors (Colorado), New Belgium (Colorado - think of Fat Tire), Leinenkugels (Wisconsin), and many many microbreweries around the world.
  24. Figure out how to water ski without breaking something (either rope, boat, jetski, or me)
  25. Attend a New Year's Day Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic
  26. Play golf on a private course usually reserved for "good" players. And not lose more than 9 golf balls on the course
  27. Go on a whale watching trip in Alaska
  28. Finally get Britney to call me back... instead of her lawyer or the police with the latest restraining order
  29. Watch a full live performance of Wagner's Ring Cycle (Der Ring des Nibelungen - a 15 hour performance usually taking 3-4 days)
  30. Finish visiting all of the Guggenheim Modern Art Museums (still need to get to Venice, Bilbao, Berlin and coming soon - Guadalajara and Abu Dhabi)
Haiku of the Day
Another year past
New bubble to fill in now
"30 to 40"

Entertainment of the Day - I went a little old school this weekend with some of my movie watching - and what better way to do this than Enter the Dragon which was the final full movie of Bruce Lee. 1973 Kung Fu type movie with the incredible Bruce Lee who is very crafty in his styles of fighting. As I was reading about the movie, there is a lot of speculation that the "opponents" in the movie would really fight Bruce Lee in the scene to try to prove themselves to the great Bruce Lee. Lee ended up breaking a guy's teeth and a couple of other injuries since he felt some of them were crossing the line into reality with their fighting. He came out a winner everytime (no surprise). A very young Jackie Chan is also in this movie.

Weblink of the Day
- A good musical number featuring the folks at Home Star Runner! Make sure you play with the mixing board at the end of the short cartoon.

What, no birthday wish for me? I am insulted!! Wait a minute, maybe I shouldn't be :-)

Welcome to the 30's. Where you physically can do everything you want, only to realize that you don't recover as good anymore :-)
