Who needs sun in August? I think the saying goes "August Showers bring September Cyclone Victories"..... or something like that. We got some 11.1 (NW side of town) inches of rain this weekend which caused heavy flooding, and even some fatalities in the area between here and the Mississippi river in Winona (less than an hour away). My house is still standing, no water came in through my open windows (enjoying the incredibly cool evenings for August), and my rain gauge was over filled with water (holds 6 inches). (raining again RIGHT NOW.... guess no Jimmy Johns for lunch:( )
I'm in the middle of another yearly hummingbird feeding war with my neighbor. She has 1 feeder and I have 2 up. I just changed to my Aunt Nyla's recipe after returning from Nebraska and I'm now winning by a land slide!!! Only problem is now I have 3 Hummingbirds flying from feeder to feeder and draining the juice in about 3 days! It's just sugar water, but they love it. I'll see if I can get some good pictures this week of them to share.
New special Shiner beer is out there... anyone have it available and could pick me up a 6 pack (and figure out how to get it to me!!). Trying to do the youtube embed in my myspace page:
I haven't had a Shiner in a while, need to go look for it. This is "98" in anticipation of their 100th Anniversary in 2 more years. Please plan on a party in Shiner, Texas at that time! BTW - I have been able to find FatTire beer lately through my travels..... had plenty of it last weekend in Lincoln (ON TAP!!) and now I have a 32 oz. bottle at home to enjoy if the weather ever gets back to typical August weather. Need to get FatTire to Minnesota!!!
One other funny thing.... heard a radio station talking about a "mystery band" and played the song for people to enjoy. They are not revealing the band's name till the end of August, but I have it figured out (not the easiest web search this morning... but definitely found it). The reason not to reveal the band's name is so people learn to like the song before judging it based on the band who is releasing it. Well I'll let you in on the secret - I don't think the song is that great, and not just because it's from the new HANSON album either.... go to their myspace page and click on the "The Great Divide" link to listen to it. MMMmmmm Bop!!!!
Haiku of the Day
A reminder here....
BOY - do not dare to forget
Jill's birthday on Wed....
Entertainment of the Day - Listening to the Poison Cover CD again this weekend reminded me of how great the Poison videos were.... so I found them on youtube for you (one of the top 5 internet inventions in my book)....
Weblink of the Day - Interesting news on IBM and Sun joining together to sell hardware/software.... Sun and IBM are usually very much at competition against one another. See how this pans out long term.....

You can get FatTire in Minnesota now. It is in most liquor stores. Currently, only in 22oz bottles, but I believe it will eventually goto regular 6 and 12 pack bottles.
Oh, and my 2nd son was born on Thursday, Aug 9th. Reece John Whinery. Didn't know if you got the email or not.
Yes, there are signs up in the bars all over the twin cities saying "Fat Tire now available" so... since Rochester is behind the times, it should get here next year sometime :)
