Movie Soundtracks

I attended a wonderful set of concerts in Ankeny last night given by the 5th graders at two of the elementary schools. After only 8 months of playing their instruments, they played wonderfully and brought many smiles to the faces of all the proud parents in the audience. There were probably 20 video cameras and more than 40 digital cameras clicking and recording the experience - I thought I was in the midst of a press interview announcing world peace!!! It was a lot of fun and congrats to their wonderful instructor Heather on a job well done!

On my drive to and from Ankeny, I had time to think about today's blog.... yesterday I had an employee stop by and we played the "what movie is that song from" game and during my drive, I came up with a bunch of examples of songs that were big hits on the radio, but are now permanently associated with a movie from the past. Can you guess the movie?? (Answers will be in the post below when I get to it). Eddie - I expect 100% correct from you, no less! Brian - most would have required cable growing up so I'll give you props if you get 20% correct!

1) Roxette - Must Have Been Love
2) Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
3) Peter Cetera - Glory of Love
4) Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
5) Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone
6) Berlin - Take My Breat Away
7) Metallica - I Disappear
8) Guns N Roses - You Could Be Mine
9) The Boo Radleys - There She Goes
10) Smashmouth - All Star
11) Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
12) Huey Lewis and the News - The Power Of Love
13) Bob Seger - Shakedown
14) Survivor - Eye of the Tiger
15) Seal - Kiss From a Rose
16) Tina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero
17) The Police - Roxanne
18) The Cardigans - Lovefool
19) Trammps - Disco Inferno
20) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Love Rollercoaster
21) AN EASY ONE: Kenny Loggins - Footloose

Which makes me think of American Idol tonight - they should have "Movie Soundtrack Night" where you have to sing a song taken from a movie. This season's "themes" have been pretty shitty in my opinion so we'll see what they do tonight.

Haiku of the Day
Down to 6 "singers"
Please don't vote for Phil tonight
Go Go Gadget Mic!!!

Entertainment of the Day - so if you want to watch a strange movie (who doesn't?!?!?). I checked out Spun this weekend (mainly because it had Brittany Murphy in it) and it was bizarre, but not so bizarre that it was a bad movie. Shows the life of some junkies and how their addiction consumes everything they do. Interesting camera work and well done from an "artistic" point of view.

Weblink of the Day - If you thought I was quick at the Text Messaging - these folks make me look slow! There's money in being able to type using 9 keys!

I'm sure you already know this but Bono is on AI tonight.

Great movie song list. :)

Well, #14 is technically Rocky III.
And you misspelled #10 - Shrek.

Otherwise, interesting. I would think a "one hit" wonder night and "movie soundtrack" night would be interesting on AI. But probably most of the young AI singers would need help figuring out a song.

this is Emily, but I can't get my login to work for some reason...

I've always teased my husband for owning both the Top Gun and the Iron Eagle soundtracks because they're essentially the same movie, same kind of music.

I've never liked Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me. It wouldn't have been a bad song if U2 hadn't sung it, but to me it just never suited their style. It also sounds off-key for some reason.

I'd have included Hip to Be Square before The Power of Love for Huey Lewis. Hearing that song now gives me the creeps and makes me laugh at the same time. What movie am I referring to? :)

Haha - American Psycho... hadn't thought of that one but that was a great movie.

I did not care for Iron Eagle, but at least the stupid volleyball scene wasn't in there.
