Wedding Songs

I was at a wedding on Saturday with the Lovely Miss Hazel. It was an extremely nice wedding and the reception was held here in Rochester at the Country Club. We had the room overlooking two of the holes on the golf course which was kind of fun. The decorations were very nice, the food was incredible. They had a sweet veggie/fruit/cheese tray out when people arrived that served as lunch for me. There was a fondu fountain, cake, and even ice cream later during the dance. I thought that was a good idea, bringing out more food during the dance. I took the can of whipped cream back to our table and when one of the workers asked what it was doing at the table, I said that we were taking it home to have some fun later on. She simply replied "right on!" and left it with us. No, the whipped cream never made it home with us.

The dance was the only thing that bothered me that night. Most of you know that I love dances and can tear up some mean moves out there with the best of them. Or maybe it's just funny to watch the biggest guy on the dance floor doing his patented "fish out of water" moves! But this time, the music was straight off the CD "most overplayed wedding dance songs" which really annoyed me. There is such good music out there over the past 50 years to dance to, why do you have to select the ones that are most overplayed? Here is a list of the songs I remember:

Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin (the non-Top Gun version)
ABBA - Dancing Queen
Village People - YMCA
Hokie Pokie
Ric Silver - Electric Slide
The Beatles - Twist and Shout
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Billy Idol - Mony Mony

What else was there...... I'm trying to remember. All I know was that there was a huge lack of Michael Jackson which upset me. I was surprised there was no Chicken Dance and Macarena the way the music was being played. OH - and he did pull out some polka which was the highlight of the night. Hazel and I are decent at the polka but could still use a lesson to be even better. Something to do before the weddings later in the summer! There was also plenty of country unfortunately. I recognized the Big & Rich stuff from tailgating days. Jamie, have you purchased any other CDs for tailgating this fall?

My last good news for this Monday is how I'm having even more fun with my new phone. I had some time to kill before the reception since the Beautiful Hazel was a hostess. I figured out how to turn on RingTones (or CallTones or AnswerTones) with Cingular. So now everyone that calls my cell phone, instead of hearing "Ringggggg..... Ringggggggg" like you would expect to hear, I've selected Michael Jackson's Thriller to play to entertain you while you wait for me to pick up! How cool is that? I love this phone. I should go look for the Iowa State Fight Song! That'd be cool!

Song of the Day - Speaking of Weddings, I'm going to listen to the soundtrack from The Wedding Singer. There's some good stuff on there but of course the highlight is Adam Sandler's own song: Somebody Kill Me written in the style of The Cure. I remember being freaked out by the videos of The Cure back when MTV actually showed videos.

Video of the Day
- I did a quick search for Thriller and this video of the Penn State Nittany Lion (what is a Nittany Lion anyways and should I be scared?) is pretty good. I still think I did a better job at the Vesterby Wedding. I should rework the dance up for future gigs.....

Webpage of the Day
- Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but the painting of "Still Free" on the side of Air Force One was a hoax. It still cost them a lot of money to setup and do on a copy of the real thing. I'm still impressed and I'm sure a ton of people were convinced it was real.

Sounds like you and Hazel are getting married later this summer. Congratulations.
