Concerts are over for this month. I have rehearsal starting up again in a couple of weeks but hopefully next concert will be more enjoyable;) This one went extremely long which is never polite without warning. But it's in the past - time to move forward.
There were a ton of things happening this weekend that I'd like to use today to give shout outs to all the "winners" that affect my day to day activities.
First off, CONGRATS to the Cyclones who finally got their first win in the Big 12. So instead of the 7-0 that we should be (with 4-0 in the Big 12 North), we're a stupid 4-3 but there are still hopes. I know it was only Oklahoma State who is playing the role of Baylor this year in the Big 12 South but still, a win is a win. Congrats also to the Longhorns who man-handled Texas Tech. I think this might be Texas's year and they will definitely give USC a run for their money.
Congrats to the Minnesota Sex-Vikings who snuck out a win over the annoying Packers. I enjoy watching the Packers lose because they have the MOST annoying fans in the world. Yes, worse than the Squawkeyes and worse than the Corn-smuckers. So now I get to listen to them whine all week about how that field goal should never have counted because there was snow in Malaysia or some lame excuse. Congrats also to Iowa grad Nate Kaeding who after causing San Diego to lose their playoff game by missing easy field goals, had his kick blocked yesterday and it was returned for a touchdown to give Philly the win. If he misses it, San Diego still might win, but instead...... go Nate!! haha, stupid Hawkeye.
Congrats to the White Sox for yet another victory that will be tainted. I've never seen a team with so much controversy in the post season. I'm still pulling for Houston though (it's an NL thing) but this is some good baseball folks - hope you're watching.
Congrats to the government and their brilliant idea of pushing Daylight Savings out a month. So now the sun comes up at noon here in Rochester and it's still down before I leave work for the day. Brilliant - just brilliant. Not exactly the way I would have drawn up a solution to our energy crisis but whatever.
Congrats to IBM and their plans to build what looks like a moat on the South side of the Rochester plant. Seriously, there's a 6 foot deep and about 6 feet wide trench around most of the south parking lot that I hope they fill with water and put draw bridges around. I know that the competition is severe out there, but this is a perfect way of keeping Sun and Dell out of our building. But I know the competition is smart and they'll come at us with catapults and crossbows so we better be ready!!!
Congrats to Rochester Construction that are still nowhere close to finishing the Highway 52 construction. I'm no expert but you can tell they still have a long ways to go with the middle permanent wall. All of you optimists that said "it will be done by Oct 1st".... you're smoking something. Please share.
Congrats to Mark and Susan on the birth of their beautiful and tall son Quinn (Mighty Quinn). More pictures when I continue to get them:)
Congrats to you for still reading my blog with as much as I type anymore:)
Song of the Day - I'm in class for 2 days (my Leadership Training - good stuff!!) and the pre-class entertainment is the Album Genius Loves Company which is the Ray Charles CD with a bunch of duets. Check it out if you like the blues or some good vocal jazz!
Video of the Day - I watched Coach Carter this weekend. Pretty good feel-good story about inner city and a high school basketball team. Not sure how "true" the entire movie was but makes you hope there are actually stories where a coach focuses on the STUDENT-athlete part but I'm more of a pessimist in that regards anymore. Movie got 4 out of 5 stars from me.
Webpage of the Day - I missed the International Championship of Rock, Paper, Scissors again this year, but hopefully not next year! $7000 if you win!!! Sometime go read all of the rules and you'll be amazed at how precise they are to this "activity" (no national anthem before hand so not a sport). Go here and check it out (especially the profiler Quiz (under Sept 12).
Have a Great Monday!!!
