Nintendo

Some of you may know that IBM is designing a custom made chip for the Nintendo Revolution that is due out in 2006. If not, IBM has been making processor chips for game systems, notably the new XBox 360 coming out this November, the Play Station 3 coming out 2006, and the Nintendo Revolution. I am on the hardware lab team that will work on bringing up and characterizing the processor that IBM has designed and is providing for Nintendo. Thus my trip to Burlington, VT next week is for this.

What I present here is all public knowledge. I sometimes am able to find out more information by going to CNET then if I go through what notes I get on a daily basis. I saw some video and pictures lately that I wanted to share.

First off is the game console itself. Pretty slim and not the "cube" style that they last used:

Pretty sweet stuff. Best part is how it will be backwards compatible. That's the best part! Then this week they announced the controllers for the Revolution... this is where it gets interestingg. Here are some of the pictures I found:

And if you're really confused, then go watch the presentation by Iwata-san (President of Nintendo Co, Ltd.) and skip to the 28:30 point of the presentation:

Well worth the time investment:)

Song of the Day - Sorry folks, but I have Nintendo on the brain today. Only thing going through my dang head this morning (with headache) is the Zelda theme. Come on party people and sing with me.... Dup, dum... ba-da-da-da-da-dummmmm.... da-da-da-da-dup ba-dum.... boh-dum... da-dup dum.... boh-dum, ba-dum (dum dum dum dum)......

Video of the Day - Again.... more Nintendo but I'm going to refer to the bad decisions by film makers to produce a movie version of Super Mario Bros. (1993....... keep thinking and it'll come back to you! Dang suppressed memories). I think it's the only instance in Nintendo line of games (note that there have been other successful movies off of video games, but not from the traditional Nintendo titles). I did see this movie and thought it was horrific. Not sure why they thought it'd be a good idea but at least Dennis Hopper was in it as King Koopa. What the..... I'm sure they'll someday try a movie on Legend of Zelda. I'd love to see an Excitebike movie or even a Contra movie.... Ah Contra, the greatest video game ever made!!

Webpage of the Day - Last but not least... I leave you with some entertainment as only I can provide!! You'll need sound! http://gprime.net/video.php/nintendothemesacappella

ENJOY THE DAY!!! I'm golfing this afternoon!
